Kevin Velasquez is a passionate theatre educator and director with eighteen years of experience inspiring young artists through performance, storytelling, and design. Currently serving as a director at a fine arts academy for students in grades 6–12, Kevin has dedicated his career to cultivating creative confidence, artistic discipline, and ensemble-driven collaboration in the next generation of performers and theatre-makers.
In addition to directing and teaching, Kevin is an accomplished playwright who frequently
creates original works tailored specifically for his students. His plays often explore themes of
identity, heritage, resilience, and humor, offering young performers meaningful roles that reflect their lived experiences. His notable works include The Angel in Nettie Blue's Dress, William and the Labyrinth, The Topa, TX Chili Cook-Off, Mingo's Boy, Starry Night, Little Women of Peachtree Street, Grilled Cheese, Letter of Release, To Selena with Love, The Zombies from Webster Street, The Waterline, and Reverencia. These pieces have become staples within his program, allowing students to premiere original material while engaging in the creative process from page to stage.
